Why buy a UHA-HQ Reel to reel deck?
Are there any other Reel To Reel Decks that have won a "GOLDEN EAR AWARD?
Do they come with a warranty?
Do they have the latest state of the art designs or electronic components?
Are they all in one wife friendly box, that you can actually lift yourself?
Can you still get parts from the factory?
There are many options for buying a reel to reel deck.
1.) Buy a used 40-50 year old deck.
This is like buying a 40-50yr old car, better get a good mechanic.
Plus the electronics in these decks may be challenging at best. Even the best studio decks have
old outdated electronics, not the latest 2010 quality components.
2.) Buy a deck from a local repair shop that has been refurbished. Better idea in terms of reliability
but still nothing new and exciting from the original 40-50 yr old design.
3.) Buy an outboard head amp for reproduction.
We have found through trial and error that the signal wires from the heads are critical in the sound reproduction.
Too long and you have trouble, improper shielding, (too much or too little) and you have trouble.
This is a severly limiting issue that cannot be denied.
4.) A popular misconception is that tube designs are better than solid state,
wouldn't it be exciting if tubes could simply solve all our problems in high end audio.
Fact is tubes give and they take away, yes they can have a nice warm sound,
but they can also have their own inherent noise and coloration.
Tubes also degrade over time and the better quality tubes were all made 40 or 50 years ago. They are a dying
comodity, plus getting extremly expensive. The better tubes are going for $400 + per pair,
and going up simply because they aren't made any longer!
