SACD Explained!

This article came out in July 2001 touting the demise of the CD, now in 2005 we're wondering
what happend to SACD? It's the format that never happened along with DVD-Audio, there was plenty
of sizzle but no steak. Industry statistics show that SACD outsold DVD-Audio six to one,
but Vinyl LP records outsold SACD by over one hundred to one!
Are we going backwards here?
You may think that unitl you listen to a turntable, you'll find that a $1500 turntable can sound
better than a $5000 cd player. They surely sound better than a universal player that play's every
format available but none of them very well.

So where does that leave us?
1,) We have two "high resolution" formats that the public doesn't care about.
Cd's are good enough for the masses.
2.) All the general public has computers and they are content to download MP3's for music to an I pod.
3.) CD is still the format of choice by the masses and by the music industry.
4.) Audiophiles cannot even get behind SACD as a group so what does that tell you, it's days are numbered?
5.) We may become a society of MP3 users?
6.)People who care about sound quality will buy better CD players and stick with CD's.
6.) People who want better sound than a CD can offer will buy turntables and records again.
These are the facts as of February 2005.
