ADAGIO II VIDEO PROCESSING
DVI Output:
SiI 504 video scan converter/inverse telecine, SiI 170B DVI-HDCP transmitter.
NTSC: 480p; resolution 720 x 480; frame rate: 60 Hz; horizontal frequency: 31.5 kHz.
Analog Component Output:
Pioneer PM0033A ‘Pure Cinema’ progressive scan converter/inverse telecine, ADV7300 12-bit 8x oversampling (108 MHz) triple video DAC with video noise shaping. The use of 8x video oversampling optimizes picture quality, creating a more accurate picture than has hitherto been possible. It allows the use of a much simpler post-DAC smoothing filter, which minimizes the analog signal degradation that is caused by more complex filter designs. It also minimizes of out-of-band image components that could degrade the picture quality when connected to the analog-to-digital converter of a digital video display device. Many such devices are prone to aliasing, which the 8x oversampling serves to reduce.
Video Adjustments:
· YNR (Brightness Noise Reduction)
· CNR (Chrominance Noise Reduction)
· MNR (Mosquito Noise Reduction)
· BNR (Block Noise Reduction)
· Sharpness High
· Sharpness Mid
· Detail
· White Level (adjusts the intensity of white)
· Black Level (adjusts the intensity of black)
· Black Setup (0 IRE vs. 7.5 IRE) (rear panel switch. N/A for the DVI output)
· Gamma (Adjusts the contrast curve)
· Hue (red/green color balance)
· Chrominance Level (color saturation)
· Chrominance Delay (allowing for misaligned Y and C signals)
· 3 Video Memories
· Video On/Off (N/A for the DVI output)
The following adjustments are for progressive scan only:
· Progressive Motion (adjusts motion & still picture quality)
· Pure Cinema (offers a choice of de-interlacing strategies for 30 fps video source material)
SPEAKER AND AUDIO SETTINGS
Note: The speaker settings apply to the 5.1-channel analog outputs only.
Speaker Sizes:
Center: Large/Small
L/R Front: Large/Small
Surrounds: Large/Small
Sub: On/Off
Speaker Distances:
Speaker distances: 1 – 30 feet (0.3 - 9.0 m) to nearest 0.5 foot (0.1 m). Note that the Center/Sub speakers must be set within 6.5 feet (2 m) of the L/R Front setting, while the Surround speakers must be set within –20 feet (-6.0 m) and +6.5 feet (+2.0 m) of the L/R setting. Distance settings do not apply to SACD playback.
???When listening to a DVD-A source, the Center and Surround speakers will be automatically set to large. The sound will, however, not be affected by this change. Listening to another source will automatically return the speakers to their original settings.???
For DVD-A only: If Center and Surrounds are all set to Off, the audio is automatically downmixed to stereo. Note that some DVD-A discs don’t allow down-mixing of audio. These discs always output multi-channel audio regardless of the player settings.
Output Gain Trims:
Default setting: Fixed speaker gains.
When set to variable, the gains of speakers can be trimmed in the range –6 dB to +6 dB in 0.5 dB steps.
CD Digital Direct set to On bypasses the gain trims and bass management circuitry. (Note: DTS CDs cannot be auto-detected in this mode).
Extra Surround speaker gain trim is on back panel (-10 dB to +10 db)
Remote-controlled volume:
High-quality analog volume control adjustable 0 to –95 dB in 0.5 dB steps.
Bass Management (Applies to balanced outputs only):
There are four custom settings as follows:
Dolby Digital
DTS / DVD-A 5.1 / SACD 5.1
6.0 flat (for special 6.0-ch DVD-A)
Stereo (CD, 24/96 DAD, 2-ch SACD)
Digital Output:
Multichannel DVD-A is available at the digital output in stereo downmixed form only. Also, high sampling rate DVD-A (192 kHz or 176.4 kHz) will be down-sampled to 96 kHz, 88.2 kHz, 48 kHz, or 44.1 kHz, depending on the disc.
SACD as well as multi-channel and high sampling rate DVD-A is only available through the analog outputs.
AUDIO SETTINGS
SRS ‘TruSurround’ simulates multi-channel surround sound using only two speakers. This mode is applicable to multi-channel Dolby Digital only. Not applicable to headphone listening.

Enlightened Audio Designs
has just issued info on their new "EIGHT CHANNEL SYSTEM"
DVD Master 8000
As promised, EAD has developed the new video processing board on schedule. The new video processing circuitry, known as ADAGIOÔ, will be incorporated in the upcoming version of the DVDMaster 8000 Pro. ADAGIO refers to Alpha Digital's proprietary video processing technology; “Alpha Digital Advanced Graphic & Imaging Onboard”Ô.
ADAGIOÔ will utilize the latest version of Silicon Graphics Pure Progressive technology, embedded in a proprietary EAD design. An important feature of the ADAGIO implementation is EAD's unique Direct Digital Feed (DDF) process.
In virtually all other high-end DVD player implementations, internal Faroudja or Silicon Image boards utilize an analog video input that has already been converted from digital, which is then converted back into digital, then back into analog. The result is a full generation loss in video purity.
However, with the ADAGIO implementation, the Silicon Image chip receives a pure digital signal, direct from the MPEG2 video chip on the motherboard, connected via microsurgery to the surfacemount pinouts of this chip. This means that the quality of the video output is more pure than that of any other DVD player, by a full generation. This is like the difference between a 2nd generation copy and an original image.
In addition, ADAGIO utilizes the finest quality related components to ensure the ultimate in video purity. We know of no other DVD player video processing taken to this extreme limit.
The visual effect of these efforts is stunning! With ADAGIO, it feels as though one can walk directly into the image on the screen. The exceptional picture clarity, resolution of detail, and sense of 3D exceeds anything we've seen from a DVD source. Your customers will be thrilled by this unmatched video performance.

Review from
Stereophile Guide To Home Theater
November 2002
EAD AC MASTER
The AC Master is a state-of-the-art AC power supply center that uses a combination of balanced transformers and RF/EMI absorption devices to dramatically reduce the noise in the power supply and absorb RF & EMI interference. The AC Master features isolated digital and analog transformers that provide separate power to analog and digital connections for source components, preamps and video components. The balanced transformers provide ‘technical power’ and reduce the ‘in band’ AC noise. Our proprietary Ceralex™ devices then dissipate RFI and EMI for a vanishingly low noise floor. The sound is pure and natural without the harshness caused by high frequency distortion and out of phase effects.
Ceralex™ Components Improve Your System’s Sound
The AC Master features passive components made of a proprietary material known as Ceralex™. This revolutionary material actually dissipates RF and EMI to provide a more pure and natural signal.
Most power line filters treat only “live” and “neutral” lines, to prevent interference from entering the soundstage. Ceralex™ components are placed on all incoming AC lines, including the “ground” line, and frequency-tuned for maximum efficiency. This results in a lower noise floor and improves the dynamic range of every component in your system.
