The Clearaudio CMB (Ceramic Magnetic Bearing) is a result of long-term research and development and is based on a Clearaudio patent. Two aligned opposing magnetic fields are perfectly aligned one on top of the other, thereby rejecting each other. The magnetic fields are completely shielded from the outside through the careful application of very sophisticated materials. A high precision ceramic vertical axle fits perfectly into a bronze bearing. This perfect fit is essential and can only be achieved through the highest precision hand polishing.

High-performance synthetic oil is used for lubrication. The combination of these carefully selected components produces the effect of the platter floating by itself on an air cushion, and not on a ball bearing or bearing point.

The results of this magnetic bearing are one of the lowest frictions in turntable bearing design and until now, un-reached rumble measurements, and an unbeatable new standard in speed accuracy.

The Clearaudio Performance's New Magnetic Bearing Isolates the Platter

The Performance Package is the newest offering from German analog masters, Clearaudio. This table/tonearm combination delivers terrific performance with stunning looks and excellent value. The base is constructed of two layers of synthetic marble sandwiched with aluminum inbetween. The motor is separate from the base to minimize hum or vibration interference. But the real magic of the Performance is in the bearing! Clearaudio’s new magnetic bearing allows the platter to literally float in the air, removing any friction or drag that can occur with traditional bearing designs. What is CMB?

It's a new revolutionary bearing design that allows the platter to be levitated in a magnetic field.

This has numerous benefits:

1.) The ultimate in free platter rotation, friction is almost non existant.

2.) Noise from the platter rotating on a bearing point is virtually elimaneted.

3.) This unique design allows the platter to be acoustically isolated from sound waves generated by the speakers

4.) This design does not produce the loss of dynamics that some sprung turntables exhibit, it still sounds like the

normally fast detailed Clearaudio turntable. However there is a blacker background, less surface noise from the LP and

the presentation just sounds more realistic, more alive. I attribute this to the stylus tracking the record groove better

because when it produces a note there is less acoustic vibration from the speaker "inhibiting" that process.

A comprehensive upgrade concept is incorporated in the design of the Solution series. This upgrade path allows one to move from the entry level to the ultimate with virtually no loss of initial investment.

Built upon the Master Solution platform, upgrades include the drive, Accurate Power Generator (APG) motor synchronizer, and a second GS-Acrylic three pointed star plinth. The three pointed star plinth positions the motors precisely and tensions the belt-drive system for lowest possible distortion. These enhanced features are derived from the Clearaudio flagship Master Reference turntable.

The Master Reference is a small miracle of mechanical science - and yet, it is more than that: to be a true masterpiece, it had to be designed and crafted with true devotion. Beyond beauty and precision engineering, it is something else: passion.

Three stand-alone motors, sychronized with the Accurate Power Generator, ensure extremely low wow and flutter figures. The resonance-minimizing form of the Master Reference ensures absolute mechanical quietness. The precision-turned silicon/acrylic platter rests on an inverted bearing made of bronze and hardened steel, guaranteeing a long and trouble-free life. The Master Reference accepts up to three tonearms at one time.
